1974 SPANISH-BUILT HOFNER MODEL T-21 (500/1) BASS GUITAR

PIHER POT CODE: 4S7

COURTESY OF XOSÉ CRISANTO GÁNDARA, GALICIA, SPAIN:

The "Made in Spain" description on the back of the bass.

These original tuners fitted to the bass are similar to the type that Hofner fitted onto the Hofner 185 and Artist Basses.

A slightly unusual control console with "large" black switches and strange pots. These were made by the Piher Company in Tudela, Navarra, Norther Spain in the 7th week of 1974. (Code No: "4S7" )

The pickups have the appearance of Hofner's Type 511 "Staples", but they have a "Super" logo stamped into the top of the case. Again, I understand that these are Spanish-made.

The original, and very impressive-looking, case.

A LITTLE STORY FROM XOSÉ'S YOUTH.......

In 1977 I was fourteen. I was in love with Paul McCartney's Hofner Bass, but I could not get mine until 1978. So, I decided start with a Hofner Bass string. I went to my local Music shop in La Coruna and bought just one string. I remember I paid 100 pts. (= 0.60 Euros today!)   I chose not to use it and I kept it until today.

The old 1977 string packet and a new 2015 Hofner bass string packet.

The old and new strings!
