c1954 HOFNER SQUARE DANCE ACOUSTIC ARCHTOP GUITAR

Serial No. 2067

COURTESY OF PAUL THOMPSON, PERTH, SCOTLAND:

This guitar was purchased new by Paul's father, Vin Thompson in 1954, and he eventually handed it on to Paul. The photo below is of Vin, at the age of 83, re-united with his Square Dance in 2004, fifty years after he first played it.

"RAM works slowly in 'old computers'. My search mechanism  tells me that I bought the Square Dance in London. There was a music shop somewhere in the first hundred yards of Charring Cross Road on the left-hand side going North from Trafalgar Square. London's Tin Pan Alley, the home of Francis, Day Hunter [where I bought my first guitar previously owned by Al Bowley], was much further up CCR and off to the right-hand side thereof. I doubt very much that the store where I made the purchase back in 1954 is still in business!"

Vin Thompson sadly passed away in November 2004.

An old photo of Vin's son Paul playing the guitar in 1966.

...............and a picture of Gordon Giltrap with Paul's Square Dance.
