GRAHAM RECALLS ABOUT HIS GUITAR, AND OF LEEDS ENGLAND IN THE 1960'S...........

I have owned the Hofner V2 since the mid 60's. I bought it from a friend who used to work at Scheerer's music shop in Leeds. At the time he was playing in a Leeds based group called the Echos (no relation to the Echos already pictured on your site). He had bought a new Fender and was selling his old guitar, the Höfner. I bought the guitar from him, along with a Gibsonette amp and have had them both in storage for many years until recently deciding to take up playing again. I was recently talking to the friend who sold them to me, and he told me that he had bought the guitar from a group called the Dallas Boys, who were relatively well known at the time. They claimed to have bought it from Tommy Steele. It is in good shape for it's age and still plays well. The serial number is 161.

I took guitar lessons at Kitchens in the early 60's with an old guy who played a really nice blonde Epiphone jazz guitar. Scheerers was on North Street at the time (it is now in the Merrion Centre). Knowing one of the employees was great. I used to be let loose in the store room where all the second hand gear was kept. There were a few pieces of gear in there that I now wish I had bought!
