Notice that the original cheap black volume knobs
have been exchanged for ones that can be seen easier in low lights conditions.
Notice also the small toggle switch that I've added just under the
control plate. I've rewired the pick-ups to a switch that toggles from standard
wiring to reversed pick-up wiring. Since the original electronics are designed
differently for each pick-up : the bridge pick-up is cut in the bright tone and
the neck pick-up is natural... by reversing the pick-up wiring via the toggle
switch: the bridge pick-up get brighter tones and the neck pick-up get a deeper
bass.
It's just got even better... having all these alternatives made available thanks
to a simple toggle switch. I'm surprised they (at Hofner) didn't think of that.
The rest is as original. Oh... never leave this bass in cold weather conditions
(like we have in Canada) - not even 20 minutes like I did : the lacquer just
simply splits awfully bad & deep. If you zoom-in, you'll see the one between
the two pick-ups and one in front of the control plate.
Purchased in 1989, I'm the first owner of this great "short scale easy
playing bass". The sustain doesn't ring very long but the "bass
boom" is just outstanding. Since the bass is passive (not active)... it
makes it even more surprising.
