UPENDRA'S COMMENTS ABOUT HIS GUITAR:

"The pin striping (edging) was done by myself, as well as the "GALAXIE" logo!  I thought that some additions would help to make the guitar look attractive and it has certainly prompted a lot of people to ask me about the guitar ! I think that the additional ornamentation looks very neat. I designed it myself with no reference to any magazine or anything else.

I bought the guitar off a friend of mine in 1968 (brand new). His dad had bought it for him from Germany, and he had hardly used it for the few months that he had owned it.  I had paid a grand sum of US$ 40 at that time. All the switches, controls and everything are still the originals fitted in the factory. I have used the guitar for about 1500 performances, without a flaw. All the controls are working perfectly without any scratch or hiss, including the "treble-o-bass" switch. Believe me, I have not spent a dollar on the guitar, save for the frequent change of strings, in all these years.  Even the tremolo spring is still the original. The vibrato is sufficient and excellent for my kind of playing.

I use a Yamaha Pyramid type TA-20 amplifier and the combination gives me the exact tones played by the Ventures and Shadows (I am a dedicated and crazy fan of these two groups). I play the local language tunes (Hindi), and of course the Ventures and the Shadows music. Earlier, I had another Hofner (I don't know the model) which was a thin type with two pickups (minus the tremelo arm) and that too was great. I have also used a Fender Strat, together with  Teisco and Ibanez guitars, but nothing comes as close as the Galaxie (176, if you will).

Yep, the Galaxie is my all time favourite. And will remain so."
