PART 2 MODEL ANALYSIS - HOFNER DELUXE

HOFNER DELUXE

This model is similar to Committees of the same period, but has the high quality flamed maple back and heavy binding found later on Golden Hofners.

The guitars also have gold-plated hardware and are constructed with a 17½" lower bout. It is highly probable, that these deluxe guitars were the forerunners of the Golden Hofners which were produced from late 1959.

Unfortunately, no information is available on actual numbers of this model produced but Steve Russell’s web site show examples of the  Deluxe, from serial numbers 106 to 124.

The period of production is even more vague, but several years ago I examined a deluxe that according to its features (no Hofner logo on headstock) I dated it at around 1958 to 1959.

I know of a collector in Scotland who is fortunate enough to own one of these guitars, and he reckons his is a late fifties model. Unfortunately, it has no internal label. It is obvious that these guitars are a rare breed and difficult if not impossible to get hold-of.
