PICTURES OF RARE AND DESIRABLE HOFNERS TO BE FOUND AT MUSIC GROUND, LEEDS, ENGLAND

First, let me state that I have absolutely no commercial connection with Music Ground, other than having been a normal customer of that store for several years. This page is therefore not intended as an advertisement for their goods, but as a useful source of guitar illustrations which would not otherwise be available to Hofner enthusiasts. The quality of the guitars will of course be very apparent from the pictures, and I hope that this will recompense Justin Harrison of Music Ground for his help and co-operation in making this page possible.
Music Ground must be the foremost store in the World for vintage Hofner guitars and spare parts. They have been established in the Doncaster area of Yorkshire, England for over 25 years, but have recently moved their main vintage showroom to Leeds, also in West Yorkshire. As well as Hofners, Music Ground have a very impressive collection of all types of vintage guitars and amplifiers, including many obscure models. I can unreservedly recommend that any vintage guitar enthusiast who finds his or herself in that part of England should give them a visit, but allow plenty of time....there is a lot to see!

THE MUSIC GROUND COLLECTION:
(A SMALL SELECTION OF.....)
- c1960 HOFNER BAT GUITAR (Fledermausgitarre)
A prototype guitar with a built-in 4 watt solid state amplifier and loudspeaker.
- c1962 HOFNER 191(i) DOUBLENECK
Combined bass and six string guitar, with semi-solid body. Quite a handfull!
- c1964 HOFNER COMMITTEE BASS
This must have been Hofner's most luxurious bass. Made for the UK market only, between 1963 and 1965.
- c1961 HOFNER SIX STRING BASS GUITAR
Designated the 500/10 for the European market, and produced between 1960 and 1968. This is one of the earliest ones with the "toaster" pickups.
- 1960's HOFNER 461/S ACOUSTIC ARCHTOP
Very strange looking soundholes on this guitar! Fitted with a truss rod, so an early 60's guitar - they were made between 1954 and 1964.
- 1960's HOFNER 462/S ACOUSTIC ARCHTOP (CAT'S EYE)
The soundholes get stranger! Nice guitar to have in one's collection though!
- 1950'S HOFNER 463 ACOUSTIC ARCHTOP
Very pronounced purfling around this guitar's body, which has mahogany back and sides. Fancy fingerboard and headstock on a mahogany neck complete the very retro image! One of Hofner's longest running models, made between 1952 and 1994.
- A PAIR OF LATE 1950'S HOFNER
4570/S/E ELECTRIC ARCHTOPS
These are featured because of their very rare white bar pickups.
- c1980 HOFNER T4St SEMI-ACOUSTIC
Hofner's answer to the G***** ES355 Stereo. Fitted with "built-in octave divider for 5th and 6th strings", whatever that is!
- LATE 50'S HOFNER 162/COLORAMA SOLID
A very neat little guitar, in excellent condition for its age.
- c1962 HOFNER V3(ii)
The model between the sunburst, set-neck, V3 and the Super Solid.
- Late 60's HOFNER VERITHIN BASS
A Florentine bodied, left-handed Verithin Bass has to be worth photographing!
- c1960 FUTURAMA III SOLID
I know it isn't a Hofner, but I have great memories of these little beauties in the early 60's! Distributed by Selmer as a parallel line to the Hofners, and made in Czechoslovakia for them by Grazioso.
