OLIVEWOOD VIOLIN BASS GUITAR 

HANDCRAFTED BY MALCOLM WEAVER, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, ENGLAND

 

This hand crafted version of the Hofner 500/1 Bass has a carved solid sycamore back and sycamore sides, with of course a carved solid spruce top.  The control plate and heel cap are birds-eye-maple. The neck is made from 3-piece sycamore neck and has a rosewood fingerboard. The machine heads are a hybrid of classical and original Hofner tuners. Malcolm decided to make the pickup surrounds out of ebony, and he also reversed the headstock to mirror that of Paul McCartney's.

The 1962 Hofner 500/1, owned by Malcolm, which provided the pattern for the hand-crafted bass.
