Early-1962 HOFNER MODEL 182 SOLID  BASS GUITAR

FITTED WITH MAHOGANY NECK

POT CODE: 501

 COURTESY OF TOM BASSE, FRANCE:

Note the two holes in the body top adjacent to the bridge and the one below the tailpiece. Those indicate that originally this bass would have been fitted with a nickel-plated bridge/tailpiece cover.

The white binding around the body/neck joint indicates that this is a very early 182 example. It would seem that Hofner initially adapted previously made 171 model bodies by packing their wider neck joint routing in order to give a snug fit to the narrower bass neck, and disguised the packing pieces with the plastic binding.
