1967 HOFNER 500/1 BASS GUITAR

SERIAL No: 52039

PHOTO COURTESY OF OSCAR DECKER, TEXAS, USA:

Oscar plays with the Day Tripper Band , Austin, Texas.

Note the #876 (or is it a 816 with a German "1"?) stamped into the end of the fingerboard. This could well be the matching number that Hofner used to identify the correct neck for the correct body during assembly after spraying. Usually though these matching numbers are penciled under the fingerboard extension and inside the body joint recess.

An unusual place for the "West Germany" stamp.

A serial number 52039 has been stamped into the rear of the headstock. This is again rather unusual as it almost certainly either a Wm. Gratz or Sorkin number, and these are usually labels.
